Consensus Statement Reflections

As I was thinking about class this week, I thought that I would share with you some of the questions that we had regarding it in case you would like to reflect on them yourself. We had this class with Bernie and Ann but they had a video presentation from Leonie Shanley who broke down each part of the Consensus Statement and went deeper into it's meaning:

Stimulated by the Holy Spirit of Love
and receptive to the Spirit's inspirations

The Sister of Saint Joseph moves always towards
profound love of God
and
love of neighbor without distinction

from whom she does not separate herself
and
from whom, in the following of Christ
she works in order to achieve unity
both of neighbor with neighbor
and neighbor with God
directly in this apostolate
and
indirectly through works of charity

in humility - the spirit of the Incarnate Word
Philippians 2:5-11

in sincere charity (cordiale charité) - the manner of
Saint Joseph whose name she bears

in an Ignatian-Salesian climate: this is,

with an orientation towards excellence
(Le dépassement, le plus)

tempered by gentleness (douceur), peace, joy

Reflection -
1. How is the Spirit calling me to move?
2. What neighbor or kind of neighbor do I struggle to love?
3. How do I work to achieve Unity?
4. What do I need to empty myself of in order to be filled with God?
5. When have I experienced someone treating me "in the manner of St. Joseph"? What did they do and how did I feel?
6. Who in my life seeks excellence and is able to temper it with gentleness, peace and joy? Or, when have I found myself living in this way.

Thanks for sharing the reflection questions on the consensus statement. :) Lots of food for thought!

Each time I read this consensus statement and really think about it, I am in awe at how much is packed into so few words….actually a plan for living one’s life, short sweet and effective. I used some of the questions you listed in my morning reflection and the questions took me on a wonderful trip down the memory lane of my life (could be my age as well!)….some of the people who have taught me the most valuable lessons on each of the points that you’ve listed, were often people who would go unnoticed in our high achievement oriented world, nurse aides, the parking attendant, secretaries, the janitor, moving quietly through my life, in the “manner of Joseph.” A blessing indeed and easily missed if one isn’t paying attention.

I also love saying the last line of this consensus statement “tempered, by gentleness, peace and joy…just saying the words gives me a feeling of calmness.

Thanks for sharing this…sbk

Hi Jenn,
I just caught up on your last two "posts". I really appreciate the time and "self" you put into these. It makes you seem so much more connected and believe me, I need the connection here in Nicaragua. I especially appreciated the questions for reflection on the Concensus Statement. I will use them for my monthly day of reflection on Thursday when I go to Casa Sofia for the day.
Love you. Will take you with me on Thursday!!

I craze and absolutely need the last lines from the consensus statement as I deal with past issues, one of which is perfectionism. I need to remember that it HAS to be tempered with gentleness, peace, and joy. Thank you for your weekly updates, Jenn. I will try to get to CU at least monthly to read them all. It is good to know how things are going and great to have the stimulating sharing. God's continued blessings.

Sorry, I meant crave, not craze. I guess right now I feel a bit crazy, so maybe that was a freudian slip:-)

Hey girl,

This blog is so incredible. I feel like I am getting a remedial nun-school class! I LOVE the consensus statement, and I intend to take these reflection questions to my retreat next week. Sorry you missed time at the beach. I'll try to get a dolphin to carry a message to you next week. Unique nun-mail...Love, Judy

Just checking in to see if there was something added lately. I was glad to note P.T.P.'s comments. I will get a note off to her soon. Peace and all good to you, my friend. And...thanks for being so sharing of yourself and your journey! You do it so well. Love, Jeanne

Hi Jenn!
Sorry it has been so long since I have been in touch. Love your blog. Just read the one on the consensus statement, my favorite of all the words we use to describe CSJness. Thanks for your questions. I intend to use them for reflection this week. Have you read Sue McCrery's dissertation on the community's journey through reconfiguration:That All May Be One. She did a masterful job. Will share more later. Judy C
